Girl group GFRIEND which is known for its fresh concepts decided to disband after 7 years.
As confirmed through an interview with 10Asia on May 18, the agency Source Music failed to reach a contract renewal agreement with GFRIEND (Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, Umji) so that GFRIEND members chose to leave the agency.
Through an official statement released today, Source Music said, “Our exclusive contract with GFRIEND will end on May 22nd. This decision was taken after long and careful discussion with GFRIEND, so we finally chose to separate way to show our better side.”
GFRIEND has been receiving love from K-pop fans for the past 6 years, opening up a new generation of girl groups with diverse music, concepts, and stage performances.
GFRIEND debuted with the mini-album ‘Season of Glass’ in 2015 and managed to release hit songs such as ‘Me Gustas Tu’, ‘Glass Beads’, ‘Navillera’, ‘FINGERTIP’, ‘Fever’ and ‘MAGO’.
GFRIEND has shown an unmatched presence by carrying an innocent and fresh image. In particular, GFRIEND is loved for its music that lingers in people’s minds in contrast to the powerful stage performances and the members’ charming visuals.
After joining Big Hit Label in 2019, GFRIEND’s music and performances have become even more powerful. They showcased this change through the project ‘回: LABYRINTH’; ‘回: Song of the Sirens’; ‘回: Walpurgis Night’ in the ‘回 Series’ project.
The ‘回 Series’ tells a story of when girls grow up and face many choices in life with various conflicts as consequences of their choices. GFRIEND also tried to show the honest side of themselves with the songs from the album.
Source Music added, “We would like to sincerely thank GFRIEND for being with Source Music for a long time. We ask BUDDY to send unchanging love and support to the members who will start their activities in various fields. Source Music will also support the members who will take new steps towards a better tomorrow.”
