Seungyoun was born in Seongnam and grew up in Gangnam, Seoul.
He lives together with his mother.
Since he was a child he has dreamed of either becoming a soccer athlete or singer.
To achieve his dream, he learned soccer in Brazil for two years after graduating from elementary school.
He was a striker at the junior team of Brazilian Sport Club Corinthians Paulista.
He used the nickname ‘Luizinho’ when he lived in Brazil.
He made up his mind to be a singer after coming back to Korea from Brazil.
His parents suggested that he learn English before chasing his dream to be an idol, so he studied abroad for a year at Reedley International School, Philippines.
He auditioned for many entertainment agencies including the big three SM, JYP, YG for more than 50 times, and eventually passed an audition at YG Entertainment.
