Mingyu was born and grew up in Anyang City.
His family consists of mother, father, and a younger sister (Kim Minseo, born 2001).
He has two Maltese puppies named Aji (10 years old) and Bobpul (1 year old).
Mingyu is the rapper and a member of SEVENTEEN’s hip-hop team.
His name Kim Mingyu has the meaning of “to be a star-like shining jade”.
He belongs to Gwangsan Kim’s clan.
He was street-casted by Pledis staff near his school Burim Middle School when he was in the 2nd grade.
Mingyu, who believed the Pledis staff who told him to come without any plans, attended the audition in jeans and flip-flops, and was embarrassed by the sudden demand to sing, clapping his hands and singing the national anthem.
He unexpectedly passed the audition and joined Pledis Entertainment in October 2011.
Mingyu who was so curious about why he passed the audition, directly asked Pledis’ CEO Han Sungsoo to which he responded, “Because it’s time for a handsome trainee to join our agency.”
Mingyu graduated from Seoul Broadcasting High School (Broadcasting Content Major).
