DK was born in Mapo-gu, Seoul, but grew up in Yongin City.
His family consists of mother, father, and an older sister (born 1994).
He has a puppy named Uju.
DK is the main vocalist, a member of SEVENTEEN’s vocal team, as well as being the leader of SEVENTEEN’s first official subunit BooSeokSoon.
His birth name Lee Seokmin has the meaning of “to be a big, jade-like figure”.
His stage name Dokyeom means “to experience many things”.
Since the 2nd grade of middle school, he has decided to pursue a singing career after being greatly inspired by a stage performance of YB Band.
He originally wanted to be a rocker.
His father was slightly against his intention to be a singer, while his mother was 100% supportive of DK’s decision to pursue a singing career.
He attended a music academy to prepare for Art School admission, but he failed the tests to be enrolled in the Music Department.
The head of the music academy who is an acquaintance of Pledis Staff recommended DK to the entertainment agency. DK then participated in Pledis open audition and passed the audition in 2012.
At the audition, he sang ‘This Is the Moment’ from the Korean version of the musical ‘Jekyll & Hyde’, YB’s ‘Peppermint Candy’ and 2AM’s ‘This Song’.
He began his training at the agency shortly after, in 2012.
He graduated from Practical Dance Department of School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA).
Many people mistook his stage name ‘Dokyeom’ for his real name.

Because of his kind personality, fans nicknamed him SeokHaDaChak (‘Seokmini Haneunim Daeumeuro Chakhae’ or 석민이 하느님 다음으로 착해 it means “Seokmin is the 2nd kindest person after Jesus”).
