Esom was born and grew up in Seoul.
She is a Christian.
She is also active as a model since 2008, where she made her debut through Mnet model competition program ‘Check It Girl’.
Her stage name “Esom” is come from the combination of her surname Lee (pronounced as “E” in Korean), and som from the word “som-moongchi” (솜뭉치 means cotton ball). She was nicknamed Som-moongchi because of her chubby and cotton ball-like cheeks.
Although she debut as a model, she always wanted to be an actress.
From 2010 she started to appear in films and dramas.
She made an acting debut through the movie ‘Second Half’ in 2010.
In 2010, Esom acted as the female lead in her debut drama ‘White Christmas’ alongside famous model turned actors Kim Woo Bin, Kim Young Kwang, Hong Jong Hyun, and Lee Soo Hyuk.
She started getting recognition for her acting after starring in 2014 film ‘Scarlet Innocence’ which earned her Best New Actress Award at Director’s Cut Awards that year.
