As reported by several news outlets this morning, tvN is currently in the process of casting for its new drama ‘Captain Hong’ (tentative title). A drama department insider shared that Kim Seonho received an offer as the male lead for the drama. Recently, Kim Seonho became the hottest actor in the drama industry after successfully creating second-lead syndrome through his appearance as Han Jipyeong in ‘Start-Up’.
Following the news of Kim Seonho’s casting, Shin Minah also reportedly received a casting offer as the female lead. Although the casting of both actors is not yet finalized, their agencies stated that they are positively reviewing the offer. Kim Seonho and Shin Minah are expected to show great chemistry for the drama that will be broadcasted next year.
Kim Seonho will play the role of Hong Doosik, the class captain and neighborhood hero from a fictional area called Gongji-dong who will help anyone in any situation. Doosik is a gentle and warmhearted man who likes to meddle with everyone’s businesses. He is a free part-timer who receives only the lowest hourly wage for whatever he does, and is a mysterious man who has various rumors about his five-year career.
Shin Minah will act as Yoon Hyejin, a dentist from Seoul. A woman with a strong sense of self-love who loves to spoil herself through shopping. Even though she seems like a snob, she regularly sponsors the socially underprivileged. The icon of a self-made person who always got scholarships and survived by doing part-time jobs throughout his school days. Despite her snobby demeanor, she’s a lovely woman that one can see through her mind transparently. If her casting is confirmed, this will be Shin Minah’s drama appearance in two years after JTBC’s ‘Aide’ that aired last year.
‘Captain Hong’ is a remake of the 2004 romantic-comedy movie of the same title (international title: ‘Mr. Handy’) starring the late Kim Joohyuk and Uhm Junghwa. It is a romantic-comedy story between a female doctor who opened dentistry in a seaside small town and Captain Hong, the neighborhood helper who always receive a low wage for anything he does. Writer Shin Haeun will be in charge of the screenplay. She is known for her previous works including the critically-acclaimed drama ‘The Crowned Clown’.
